Chief Ronald M. Quagliani joined the West Haven Police Department on July
27, 1984 at the age of 19. While in the Patrol Division he served on the
Department Warrant Squad and was assigned as an investigator for the
Detective Division.
He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on April 22,
1993 and assigned to head the Traffic Division. While there he oversaw a
major upgrade to the department's radio system and the city's traffic
control devices. He also planned and coordinated several major events
including the 1995 Special Olympic World Games, the Pilot Tennis Tournament,
the annual Independence Day celebrations and much more.
He was then promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on April
18, 1997 and was assigned to the newly formed Facility Management and
Technology Division. He oversaw the implementation of computerizing all of
the department's divisions, establishment of the department's web site and
eventually paving the way for our Mobile Data System.
Chief Quagliani was then promoted to the rank of
Captain on July 14, 2000 and assigned to head the Administrative Services
Division. While there he oversaw the department's recruiting and training
processes.
He was then appointed Deputy Chief of Police on January
8, 2001. As the Deputy Chief he was instrumental in the planning,
preparation and eventual move into the new West Haven Police Headquarters
located at 200 Sawmill Road. He also oversaw all of the day to day
operations of the Department.
Chief Quagliani, at the age of 40, was unanimously
approved by the Board of Police Commissioners to become the Department’s 14th
Chief of Police effective July 1, 2005.
Chief Quagliani is a graduate of Notre Dame High School
in West Haven and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice -
Law Enforcement Administration and a Masters Degree in National Security and
Public Safety from the University of New Haven.
Chief Quagliani is a member of the West Haven Early
Childhood Commission, a lector at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church
in West Haven, a member of the Connecticut Police Chief’s Association, a
delegate to the Connecticut Police Chief's Technology and Telecommunication
Committee, the International Association of Chief’s of Police and the Police
Executive Research Forum, and a graduate of the 231st session of the FBI
National Academy. Chief Quagliani is a lifelong resident of the City of West Haven.
