At the May 6, 2008 Board of Police Commissioners Meeting, Jason Aklin who
is already a certified police officer, was hired as a Probationary Officer
effective May 23, 2008. Jason will be assigned to the patrol division
where he will undergo a modified field-training program.
Citywide Block Watch Notice: There will be a citywide block watch
meeting for ALL active block watches and those interested in starting a
block watch on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 7pm in the Community Room of the
West Haven Police Department. This is the time to come out, meet your
neighbors, and learn how easy and rewarding it is to be a part of your
community!

Recently members of the WHPD participated in "Fugitive Files", a series
on WFSB Channel 3 which featured mugshots of several people the WHPD are

The West Haven Police Department will be co-sponsoring the FIRST
benefit walk in memory of Jessica N. Santos, a UNH student who was fatally
shot in a random drive-by shooting in NY on August 27, 2006. Jessica
had dreamed of becoming an FBI investigator and was majoring in Criminal
Investigations.
The walk will take place SATURDAY, APRIL 19, 2008 at the OAK
STREET BOARDWALK in WEST HAVEN, CT. Registration starts at
9 AM and the walk will begin at 10 AM.
Proceeds will go towards the Jessica N. Santos Memorial Scholarship to
benefit students at UNH that are pursuing a Criminal Justice/Forensics
degree.

UPDATE: The jamboree was a huge

On Saturday April 5, 2008 at 11 am will be
the WHPD's FIRST Annual Hockey Jamboree. The WHPD formed a hockey team
this past season and is dedicating the very first jamboree to Det. William
Bruneau who is currently recovering from illness.
All proceeds will go to benefit Det. William
Bruneau and co-sponsoring the event is Hamden PD, New Haven PD and
Bridgeport PD.

Congratulations to Det. Paul Sires on his
recent retirement from the WHPD after 21 years of service. The WHPD
also wishes to acknowledge the hard work of his partner K9 Joe who also
retired. Det. Sires was known for great achievements and assistance
over his many years of service and dedication to the department, and he (and
K9 Joe) will surely be missed. Congratulations and best of luck!
If you come to pick up a report or speak to
the Records Room employees, you'll notice a few new faces -- Donna Altieri
and Edward Flynn. Both have joined the records room staff in February.

At the recent Board of Police Commissioners
Meeting: Officer Martin Garcia was promoted to the rank of Sergeant
and Officer Usha Carr was promoted to the rank of Detective.

Congratulations to West Haven ERS communicator Frank Meyer. Frank,
who answers emergency calls for police and fire service in West Haven, was
awarded the 911 Dispatcher award for walking a parent of a 3 year old
through rescue breathing to revive their child in December 2006.

DeFrancesco who recently retired after a long career with the West Haven
Police Department. Patti was the front desk greeter at the police
department and also helped answer non-emergency calls. Best wishes
Patti!
Congratulations to Chris Stratton and
Courtney Dorsi who were both hired as probationary police officers at a
recent commissioners meeting. Both Chris and Courtney will be trained
at the CT Police Academy where they will undergo 22 weeks of training.
After 34 years of service as a member of the records room staff, Valerie
White has retired from the West Haven Police Department.
