The Special Victim's Unit of the West Haven Police Department investigates all child abuse, child molestation and sex crimes. In addition, the unit regularly monitors registered sex offenders insuring their compliance with all applicable laws.

Members of this unit work in close partnership with the Department of Children and Families, Milford Rape Crisis and local hospitals.

Currently assigned to the SVU is Det. Mary Canfield, Detective Sean Faughnan, Detective Steve Viele and Detective Craig Casman.

The SVU is supervised by Detective Sgt. Ralph Angelo.
